Introducing Monkeybutt Ruby

I didn’t think I’d be posting again so soon after completing my story last week (although I had my suspicions…..). I am just sooooo excited. I have a new Monkeybutt sister!!!!!!!  I am so proud of my mum. I was really worried that she would sink into a deep depression when I was gone. She still cries too much but that’s the way she is. Tears are as natural to her as barking is to me. It saddens me to think that my going has caused her so much unhappiness. That’s why I’ve stuck around… to make sure she is OK. My step dad has been a wonderful support to her but I know what a handful she can be and that sometimes only the touch of a furry paw and wet nose will do.

I was scared that mum would close off her heart and refuse to love again. So it is with much pleasure and excitement that I now introduce my new sister, Monkeybutt Ruby.

Ruby is a 10 year old rescue dog, an Australian cattle cross stumpy. She is missing a tail, just like me!  Mum first saw her picture in the local rescue magazine over four months ago (while I was still in my body….. how rude……well, actually…. I like to think that I picked her out for mum). Mum hasn’t been able to get Ruby out of her mind. There was just something about Ruby that called to mum and mum could see some of my cheekiness hiding in Ruby’s tired, sad face. She found out that Ruby still hadn’t found a home so she made an appointment to go and meet her, still feeling a little unsure, wondering if it was still too soon, whether I’d be OK with it. But when she was given a lead with “Call me Princess” printed on it to take Ruby for a walk she knew that it was meant to be.  It was fate.

Mum felt there had to be a reason for God calling me away before my time and it has really bothered her as she tries to make sense of it all. She came to the conclusion that it was because my earthly job was done. I’d opened her heart and shown her what was important in life and how to live it to the fullest. Now it was mum’s turn to give back to another doggie, a doggie who hasn’t known the love and warmth that I knew, and who can live out her twilight years with comfort and dignity and most importantly lots of love.

Ruby is “almost” as beautiful as me! I know she will never take my place in mum’s heart. I was mum’s first love. But, with the love that mum and I shared mum’s heart has grown bigger and now there is more than enough room in there for Ruby as well as me and my step dad (I have to mention him because he gets a bit insecure about all the doggie love). And I couldn’t be happier for her. I’ll still be keeping an eye on mum but I can now get on with having fun and wreaking havoc here at Rainbow Bridge knowing that she is going to be OK.

About princess

Almost 10 year old loyal and courageous rottie! 30 May 2002 to 5 May 2012 Lost her leg to osteosarcoma on 1st Sep 2011 and did 6 rounds of chemo with carboplatin. 3 lung mets found in Mar 2012 and 1 month of Palladia done before it was stopped due to GI issues. But it was metastasis to the back right hip that finally took our little girl on 5th May 2012. She was happy, contented, relaxed and very loved when she peacefully slipped away in her mum's loving arms.

Well congratulations and I think you will develop a very special bond with Ruby. She looks younger than 10 and she sure is lucky to have found a home with someone who will love her as much as you will. With the leash with “Princess” printed on it, I believe another Princess and fate played a role.

Looks like a match made in heaven to me!

  3. Oh, that is so wonderful! Princess HAD to have her paw in on this, especially with the lead having her name on it!

It is so sweet of you to take in an older Monkeygirl and give her a loving home. I know Princess is so proud of you! Hooray!!

This is an awesome post! 🙂

Wow, here come the tears again… Congratulations, Ruby, I suspect you already know this, but you have hit the pawrent jackpot. Magnum, I am glad to hear your mum is going to be ok. I know you are running with pack up there, enjoying yourself until you are together again .

Yep! The best news ever, and everyone gets to win! How can it get any better than that? Opening your heart to an older dog is so special, and you learn so much because they don’t mold like puppies do. But they come with wisdom and experience that are valuable. (We took on a Collie that was aged 9; what a ride!) Ruby will get to see all that love that you got, Princess, so thank you for whatever direction you gave everyone involved. Now–go play!

Thanks everyone. You guys are the best. Yes, it is a win win and most definitely a match made in heaven. Mum and Ruby will be able help each other’s hearts heal.

Mum thinks Ruby must have been loved at some point. She is so at home inside the house, so good on the lead (unlike me!) and so placid (although she is beginning to test the boundaries, hee hee). We have no idea how long Ruby has been without the love of a family. She was very thin and uncared for when she was saved from the pound and her spirit was very broken (is still very damaged). The vets are only guessing that she is 10. No-one know anything about her life before the rescue shelter.

But mum and my step dad have an abundance of love to shower on her so, with time, I’m sure Ruby’s heart and spirit can be healed.

Now I’m off to see what mischief I can get up to …….

Oh Magnum, you have done a wonderful job making sure your people are taken care of and guided by the Wisdom of Dog! Ruby is a gem, just like your pack. I mean there really IS a special place in the universe for people who open their hearts to an older, wiser pup. I wish more people were like your pawrents.

Ruby is just darling. I hope we get to hear much more about her adventures. What a lucky girl to get to guide your people around this earth.

Now go run amok and have a blast Magnum. You done good! xoxo

Welcome, beautiful MB Ruby! Magnum, it is so wonderful of you to love your mum so much that you picked out a new friend for her. You’re right, sometimes only a wet nose and furry paw can give you the comfort that you need. Ruby really has hit the pawrent jackpot. I am so happy for all of you as you embark on this next part of your journey. Now Magnum, go cause some trouble up there at the Rainbow Bridge (and poke my Holly to play with you!)!

Congratulations to Ruby and family! How wonderful that you could help your Mom move on to taking care of another furry family member.
I’m sure the days ahead will be much happier!
